From open courtyard to main living room
This home was built around an open courtyard. We enclosed it to create a new main lounge room that opens the house up and links the living areas around it.
The biggest challenge was the roof, which had to span 8 metres. We carried it on 8 metre long, 300mm deep LVL rafters, so the skillion roof clears the full width of the room, and a row of high windows brings light in from above.
The new fireplace sits on a burnished concrete plinth that runs the length of the feature wall and gives the room its focal point.
